Located in Yizhou City, China, Yizhou Senior High School is the region’s “first class” school and one of the most important schools in the Hechi district. The school counts around 2’000 students between the age of 14 and 19. Most of them are female and they are grouped in 32 classes. Yizhou City is located in south eastern China, in the Hechi district. Even though being one of China’s states with a comparatively average structural strength, the Hechi district still features areas where poverty is highly distributed.
PIECES’ volunteers teach English to students who are between 15 and 19 years old. In general, the English level is rather low. The students most often have some experience in grammar and writing but huge problems with speaking and pronunciation. Many of them are not able to speak in full sentences or to have a proper conversation. In 2017, our volunteers taught classes of 21-24 students in four different levels of English. Overall, they taught around 90 students aged between 12-18 years. By teaching English, we equip the students with the most important business language and help them to (further) develop their communication skills. Our aim is to create a sustainable impact and help our students to be able to finance a better living standard in the future. Our volunteers live directly on campus and can reach the school within 5 minutes by foot.
As every PIECES project is funded individually, we need new sponsors and benefactors to finance the engagement of our volunteers! By donating, you help us maintaining one of our oldest signature projects. We guarantee that every donated penny directly flows into our project work (on site!). Only with your help, we can establish long time volunteering partnerships and truly create a sustainable impact!
